In an article published this week in Foreign Policy, Baker Institute founding director Ambassador Edward P. Djerejian and information technology policy fellow Christopher Bronk, Ph.D., discuss the potentially disastrous effects of WikiLeaks’ publication of more than 250,000 U.S. embassy cables.
Djerejian, who served as U.S. ambassador to Syria and to Israel, and Bronk, a former career diplomat with the State Department, address the far-reaching consequences of the embassy cable leak. “U.S. diplomats spend years building effective professional and personal relationships with their foreign counterparts in order to promote national security interests and values,” they write. “This breach of information can seriously impair and hinder that capability.”
Djerejian also commented on WikiLeaks’ illegal publication of classified material in a Public Radio International interview.
