With the rise of Brazil in the global political arena, U.S.-Brazil relations are increasingly in the spotlight. The Baker Institute Latin America Initiative co-sponsored an event that brought His Excellency Mauro Vieira, ambassador of Brazil to the United States, to speak on U.S.-Brazil diplomatic relations in the 21st century. Vieira commented on the evolving, strengthening relationship, enhanced by similar core values, noting that:
“Our relationship is founded on shared values. Both Brazil and the United States are multiethnic and multicultural democracies. Both countries believe in multilateralism as the best way to find peaceful solutions to the world’s most pressing problems. The fact that Brazil is emerging as an important stable and more assertive player in the international arena is also contributing to strengthening our bilateral relationship.”
In addition, Vieira touched on several other issues including the longevity of the amiable relationship between the two countries, the Brazilian economy, environment, international relations and educational initiatives for Brazilian students.
