Joanne King Herring on “Diamonds and Diplomacy”

Tonight, the Baker Institute welcomes Joanne King Herring, founder of the Marshall Plan Charities, to speak about her recently published memoir, “Diplomacy and Diamonds: My Wars from the Ballroom to the Battlefield.”

Played by Julia Roberts in the movie “Charlie Wilson’s War,” Herring’s story, including her years as a television anchor and her role as an international socialite and political activist, is what The Honorable James A. Baker, III, described as “a flash of light in a dark world.”

Herring’s current project in Afghanistan aims to rebuild the country one village at a time through food, water and education, all for what it costs to keep one soldier in the field for a year.

Tickets are no longer available for this event, but you can tune in to watch a live webcast of Herring’s remarks beginning at 6:00 pm tonight. The webcast will also be archived after the event and available for viewing later this week.
