The Honorable James A. Baker, III, the institute’s namesake and former U.S. secretary of state, has an op-ed in today’s Washington Post urging lawmakers to ratify the START treaty.
Baker co-authored the article, “The Republican case for ratifying new START,” with four other former secretaries of state — Henry A. Kissinger, George P. Shultz, Lawrence S. Eagleburger and Colin L. Powell. According to the opinion piece:
“Although each of us had initial questions about New START, administration officials have provided reasonable answers. We believe there are compelling reasons Republicans should support ratification.”
