Is Mexico becoming the next Colombia?

Recently, Mexican officials took offense to U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s comparison of the country’s drug cartel violence to the Colombian insurgency two decades ago. Homeland security and terrorism fellow Joan Neuhaus Schaan, while recognizing that there are fundamental differences between the two scenarios, argues in a Houston Chronicle op-ed that based on the level and organization of violence in Mexico, Clinton’s remarks are not too far off the mark.
