President George H.W. Bush congratulates his friend, The Honorable James A. Baker, III

The Honorable James A. Baker, III, turned 80 recently and, to celebrate, the Baker Institute hosted a gala attended by nearly 700 guests.

President George H.W. Bush toasted Mr. Baker, calling him “one of our dearest friends in life.” Former First Lady Barbara Bush also had kind words, as did Baker Institute founding director Ambassador Edward P. Djerejian.

Mr. Baker thanked his many friends in the audience, saying, “I hope that all of you can appreciate how rewarding it is for me to be surrounded by family and friends who have shared with me the many peaks and valleys of my life. I am really one extraordinarily lucky guy.”
