The Baker Institute’s namesake and honorary chairman, former U.S. Secretary of State James A. Baker, III, recently published a commentary in The Washington Post about the constitutional crisis in Honduras.
In “A Fair Plan For Honduras,” Baker recalls the U.S. experience in Nicaragua in 1990, when “free elections supported by the U.S. Congress and the Bush administration” helped end a divisive civil war that had “poisoned” American politics for years.
Baker, who served as the nation’s 61st secretary of state from January 1989 through August 1992 under President George H.W. Bush, urges a similar course of action in Honduras.
